Port Kembla Open Street Festival - illuminart stories in light

Port Kembla Open Street Festival

A Celebration of Light, Art, and Community

The Port Kembla Festival transformed Wentworth St into an immersive celebration of light, art, and community. This free, family-friendly street festival featured music, roving entertainment, food, and a makers’ market. As twilight fell, illuminart Stories in Light projections illuminated the streets, creating a vibrant and interactive atmosphere.

Projection Mapping & Mural Mapping

Illuminart brought dynamic projection mapping to key buildings and murals, blending art, architecture, and technology to build a living narrative.

Featured Installations

  • Universal Daydream Building – A visually rich transformation of this iconic site.
  • Mural in the Park – Mural mapping brought existing street art to life, integrating animated overlays that added movement and depth.
  • 1926 CJ McCann Facade – A heritage building reimagined through projection art.

Mural mapping is an innovative technique that merges digital projection with static artwork, enhancing murals with light, movement, and storytelling. By aligning projected visuals with painted surfaces, murals appear to shift, evolve, and transform, creating a captivating and immersive experience.

Building Uplighting & Decorative Lighting

Strategically placed ambient lighting enhanced key buildings, adding depth and atmosphere to the festival precinct.

NASA Gallery Installation

A special wall-to-wall projection installation covered three large walls inside the NASA Gallery. This immersive space ran from October 5 – October 19, 2024, extending the festival experience beyond the main event night.

Event Logistics & Planning

Detailed coordination and planning ensured seamless integration with Holy Pavlova’s festival project management, supporting a fantastic festival experience.
