Narra-BRIGHT Architectural Projections

Illuminart have worked directly with Narrabri Shire Council on two brand new light experiences for the annual Narra-BRIGHT Light event.

Now in its third year, Narrabri’s CBD came to life for Council’s annual CBD street party, featuring light installations, music, entertainment, kids activities, late night shopping, food trucks, art installations and workshops.

Two iconic buildings on Maitland Street created vibrant illusions that highlighted their unique architectural features through the magic of projection mapping.

The Grayhound Building became a canvas for the artworks created by 14 Primary and High schools across the region. The artwork consolidated the motifs and designs created for previous NAIDOC celebrations and featured native animals and designs inspired by the local area.

Just across the street, the commanding former bank building was transformed with a mythical and poetic moving image series inspired by the theme of flight. There were allusions to narcissus, icarus, and the phoenix within this vibrant creation, and those who observed carefully saw clever moments when both buildings synchronised their flight.

Illuminart’s Artistic Director, Cindi Drennan said,” We take great pride in our ongoing work in regional places, to bring the community together to share vibrant and exciting moving image experiences, projecting creations made with local collaborators, onto important regional landmarks. Bringing the art out into the open, and helping people and places shine, is our passion.”

Cindi was recently recognised with an award for Outstanding Contribution to Australian Art Tourism at the 2022 Australian Street Awards, and illuminart stories in light also won the award for Best Mega Mural, for Quorn Silo Light Show.  Cindi said “every aspect of regional digital art requires great care and diligence, to ensure the event or project has a long lasting and positive outcome for the community, well beyond the event.   All the illuminart team members, whether animators, designers, or technicians attending to set up and run the Narrabright show brought that focus on quality and support of regional communities, to this special event in Narrabri. The team are thrilled to share this beautiful projection of collaboratively made artwork with the community.”

Narra-Bright incorporated many other attractions including a 3D chalk Street Art Trail with incredible visual illusions, The Sensory Garden (an immersive experience), neon installations, food trucks, workshops and performances.  The event formed part of CREATE festival 2023.

We were thrilled with the result. It was a beautiful projection loop, something our community is raving about.
