Moby the Projection Bus, ready to tour South Australia.
In preparation for the Port to Port Odyssey, we acquired “Moby” – an old coaster that is being kitted out with high powered projectors ready to offer a free show in each place.
Moby has been kitted out with three high powered Epson projectors, sound system and power for all situations, so we can take projection art to places where it would normally be impossible.
Once Moby’s fit out is complete all is ready for illuminating silos, big buildings and town halls with animated projection art and stories in free public shows.
Look at Moby now! Bright and beautiful! Ready to take projection art to all corners of South Australia.
Moby was a bit of a horror show to begin with, and the gallery below shows the makeover in progress. It would have been easier if we could have just projected the repairs onto Moby !
Meet MOBY. Moby is a fun name that rhymes with OB – (‘outside broadcast’ like the TV stations have on the big gigs) – and we hope everyone coming to the shows will have a whale of a time.
Moby has a spot of rust. Not surprising, as he is over 35!
There’s that corner – Much tidier after a bit of repair work!
Here are two of the Epsonhigh powered projectors being being prepared for fitting into Moby for the tour. The Bunnings hat is an optional extra :)
Our dream is to project onto as many regional places as possible and share the stories we have collaborated on.
Here’s Moby parked in a factory in suburban Adelaide where we have a bit of a project going
Moby has been painted white! Next step: Solar panels.
Zero – Rust Busting the Boot!
The fit out begins…
Test set up for the Epson Projectors
We are now getting closer to the tour starting… just counting the weeks!
Adding the Solar Panels
Every Silo and building we project onto is a unique and exciting canvas. We can’t wait to warm the winters nights with brilliant colour and animation.
The layout is designed to store lots of equipment for the tour.
The Ceiling has now been lined.
We are looking forward to being able to project onto Silos in many places, very soon.
Getting ready to hit the road, we have many places to return to.
Final stages of building
Loading the equipment into Moby now.
Last thing, the carwash, to be all sparkly!
This project is part of illuminart’s ‘Port to Port’ statewide program, creating digital stories to connect port towns throughout South Australia with their past, present and future through the exciting portal of projection art. It has been made possible with the support of the Australia Council for the Arts.
We also acknowledge our partners and sponsors Flinders Ports, District Council of Streaky Bay, City of Onkaparinga, Epson Australia, and many regional towns and businesses (Thank you!).
