Join us to celebrate 50 Years of Pichi Richi Railway Heritage in a Unique Silo Projection Film Festival.
The historic town of Quorn is set to host an extraordinary celebration as the Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society marks a significant milestone with RailFest. This event commemorates the remarkable achievements of volunteers who, half a century ago, successfully repaired the railway line and operated the very first passenger train, just one year after the Society’s establishment. RailFest will run from 27th to 28th July 2024, featuring a variety of events, including the famous Quorn Silo Light Show.
A special film festival called RailFest Film Tracks, a curated selection of railway films that illustrate the vital role of railways in expanding regional areas and connecting outback Australia, will be projected on the Quorn Silos during Railfest. The films will be introduced by Lisa Southon, local community historian, providing an illuminating context for each story.
The Flinders Ranges Council Mayor Ken Anderson encourages everyone to rug up, bring a chair and popcorn for a steamy selection of train stories that reflect the great heritage of the Flinders Ranges region.
“Railfest is a unique opportunity to be involved in lots of train-related activities and events and these special screenings on the Quorn Silo will provide a poignant look into the history and significance of railways. Highlights include “Rail Town,” a study of life in Port Augusta, and “The Great Train Robbery,” one of the earliest films that broke new ground in filmmaking.”
“Combining two Quorn award winning tourist attractions, the Pichi Richi Railway and the Quorn Silo Light Show, is a major coup and visitors get to experience all the history for free with the Film Tracks Festival.” Mayor Anderson said.
Film Tracks Festival will screen on the Quorn Silos, Railway Terrace from 6.45pm, following the regular program, on the 27 and 28 July 2024.
RailFest promises to be a memorable event, honouring the dedication of Pichi Richi Railway’s volunteers and celebrating the profound impact of railways on Australia’s development. Join us in Quorn for this unique celebration of history, culture, and community.
