Lucentide: focusing on the Onkaparinga River

Lucentide fuses photography, moving image and community engagement; focusing on the nature and biodiversity of the Onkaparinga River. The luminous artwork interweaves many collaborators’ photographs and creative input into a meditative illumination. It was presented on the 14th September 2018 at the launch of the Shimmer Biennale, and exhibited during the festival as a moving image artwork.

from source to the sea: Local photographer Matt Frost collaborated with illuminart to explore the Onkaparinga River in time and light.

our onkaparinga: Local photographers contributed photos, poems and music to make a visual exploration of the unique coastal landscape of the Onkaparinga region.

Devised in partnership with the City of Onkaparinga and illuminart, Lucentide is an opportunity for photographers and illumination artists to collaborate on moving image artwork. Our artistic team worked closely with local photographer Matt Frost to develop the project into an opportunity for people with an interest in the natural spaces of the river, to collaborate and contribute thoughts and photographs. Two excursions were held that provided contact with the river and others with interest.

Lucentide will expand to other regions as part of illuminart’s Port to Port project – a state-wide project produced by illuminart. Lucentide was developed in partnership with the City of Onkaparinga for Shimmer Photographic Biennale 2018. Port to Port has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.
