Future Portal: interactive projections at Port Adelaide

South Australia’s first interactive architectural projections were presented in Port Adelaide on the 18-20 October, enjoyed by over 7000 people during the three nights of the festival.

This exciting event was illuminart’s FUTURE PORTAL, created for the Port Festival 2013.

It featured animations representing the future of Port Adelaide, inspired by community consultation about development in the area. This has been a hot topic for some years and illuminart played with the ideas to explore the topics with a playful approach.

Children and adults all vied for an opportunity to interact using Big Glowing Buttons and a LEAP Motion interface that allows users to ‘draw’ in the air.

Other interactive activities included painting with Tag Tool (with artist Penny Campton) and painting with LEAP Paint (designed by Luku Kukuku).

Highlights of the event were colourful building transformations designed by local artists including Bob Daly, Kalyna Micenko, Kaz Pederson and many others. Shipshape was also a hit and the brains in jars were also a popular feature.
