150 Stories Lab: Capture and Share Port Pirie’s Stories and Legacy

A community-driven storytelling project that transforms Port Pirie’s lived histories into contemporary projection-based artworks, creating a major public cultural moment for the city’s 150th anniversary while building a lasting local storytelling legacy.

150 Stories Lab
Curating Stories of Port Pirie for 150 Years

150 Stories Lab is a community storytelling project that brings together local histories, voices and lived experiences, and transforms them into film, animation, illustration and large-scale projection artworks presented in the public realm.

Developed for Port Pirie’s 150th anniversary and presented during the SALA Winter Festival, the project creates a shared cultural moment while building a lasting archive of community stories.

What we are doing:

  • Community workshops and story recording sessions
  • Collaboration with filmmakers, artists and local creatives
  • Development of new media-based artworks
  • Public projection presentations in Memorial Park
  • Ongoing story collection during the event

This project brings contemporary storytelling into a public, accessible setting, allowing people to encounter new forms of art through stories that are their own.

It supports artists to create new work in collaboration with community, while building local capacity for storytelling, documentation and creative practice.

Legacy

The stories collected through the project will form part of a growing archive connected to the Port Pirie Railway Station Museum and Port Pirie City Park, ensuring that the voices and histories of the community remain accessible into the future.
