Artists’ Night (Port Augusta Re-imagines)

A convergence between projection art, performance, and documentary presentation, the Artists Night project told the stories of over twenty artists living and working in the Port Augusta and Flinders Ranges community, while simultaneously experimentally mixing the artist’s interviews with their artworks in a live, experimental, performative visual mix.

The project involved a series of interviews and collecting digital images of the artists and their studios and creative spaces, and artworks. Projection artist Cindi Drennan worked with digital trainee, Ben Webb, to collate the elements and then mix them live, with a different output to each of three projectors.

The stories and the performed audiovisual mix, were presented in a single night event at The Institute, Port Augusta, during the 2008 South Australian Living Artists festival.  The project formed a night time completion of a public studio day in The Barracks, called “Artists Day”.

This project was assisted by Arts SA (through support of Cindi Drennan’s project ‘Light Pirates’ training Ben Webb) and Country Arts SA.
