Constellation: Navigation by the Stars
Constellation builds on the knowledge shared with regional artists and community groups during the making of ‘Port to Port‘, an epic five year cross regional project. This video provides some of the background to the Port to Port project and shows how the community and artists relationships have developed over five years, which help to inform the Constellation project.
Illuminart have been working with regional communities in SA for over a decade, winning two major awards for work in the regions, the first being State winner of Best Regional Event in SA for the Boston Bay Broadcast project, in Port Lincoln.
The five year Port to Port project culminated with a tour, projecting digital stories onto regional landmarks in South Australia (and this has just received the National award for Best Regional Event, in the Australian Event Awards 2020.)
SITES and PARTNERS
The Port to Port project, and the Travelling Light event, were instrumental in developing two permanent projection sites in South Australia in 2020, bringing the number of regional sites to six. It also highlighted the enormous appetite for illumination art and the exposure of art and stories to tourists and grey nomads, offering a valuable place to connect with local arts and creative people. Below is a list of the sites and their background.
Dec 2020 – Wallaroo Silo Art – this permanent projection is being established in partnership with the Copper Coast Council and is intended to showcase art and media.
Feb 2020 – Quorn Silo Light Show – permanent projection attraction in Silo, installed, managed and curated by illuminart for the Flinders Ranges Council.
Dec 2019 – Bonney Theatre System – permanent projection, designed and installed by illuminart and managed by Berri Barmera Council
June 2019 – Karoonda Silo Art – Australia’s first permanent Silo projection and as yet the only one with mural+projection – designed, installed and maintained by illuminart
June 2016 – Victa Cinema – Permanent projection in Victor Harbor with input and content from illuminart, although not designed by us we now curate and monitor it.
2012 – Mount Gambier Cave Gardens and Cultural Centre Projection System. This system was not designed by us, but since 2018 we have helped to fix issues and are involved as partners to develop and improve this to be of greater benefit to Mt Gambier.
