Illuminart’s Founding and Artistic Director Cindi Drennan was the Creative Director of Kaleidoscope 2016, which has won the Event of the Year award at the Parks and Leisure Australia (PLA) WA Awards of Excellence on June 16, 2017.
City of Joondalup’s inaugural festival of projection and illumination transformed the Joondalup city centre over four nights in November 2016, attracting more than 50,000 people.
Working together with Mellen Events and the City of Joondalup, Cindi developed a unique program of attractions for the Kaleidoscope Festival which brought together a diverse range of Western Australian illumination, new media and projection artists to work in creative collaborations.
Cindi said “This is a fabulous recognition of the vision and the dedication of City of Joondalup and Mellen Events, and I am thrilled as will be all the participating artists.”
The unique program presented at Kaleidoscope included architectural projections, light sculptures, performance work and innovations in virtual and augmented reality, and included the commissioning of a new Indigenous media art project directed by Dennis Simmons, and a new media dance work choreographed by Chrissie Parrot. All the works were connected by a theme of ‘City of the Future’, explored by the participating artists and collectives in a variety of exciting ways.
