Winter Projections 2019 – brighten your long nights with illuminart!

Never let the cold put you off making the most of the wonderfully long nights of Winter! Indeed, illuminart are delighted to be working with a number of communities to develop and present local stories and support culture making through projection art.

May 2019 is just the beginning of a vibrant winter season, and illuminart invites you to enjoy the heartwarming experience of sharing a night time cultural event with your friends and family.

Here are a few of our upcoming events. Pack a beanie and visit in person if you are in these towns… or enjoy the experience vicariously with us as we share what we are doing on social media!

The Flight of the Red Devil – Victor Harbor SA:

This entertaining and informative tale sheds a little light on the dashing exploits of South Australian aviation pioneer Harry Butler, who flew his iconic Red Devil plane to thrill the crowds of holiday makers at Victor Harbor, on new years day 1920.

It will be showing every night from 27 April – 31 May 2019 in projection onto the exterior of the Victa Cinema, 37 – 41 ocean street Victor Harbor. Find out more here.

A Feathered Adventure in Flight – Wagga Wagga NSW:

On the 12th of May until the 18th of May, projection artist Cindi Drennan will be in Wagga Wagga NSW, to develop our latest commission and present a community engagement and collaboration workshop series. At the end of the week Cindi will join animators and digital makers at the Australian International Animation Festival.

Local illustrators, bird watchers, and animators are all invited to participate! Find out more about this exciting project here.

Whispering Walls – if the Walls had Ears – Nairne SA:

For just three very special nights in May the small Adelaide Hills town of Nairne will come to life with a series of progressive performances devised by Ink Pot Arts Inc. and locals. The performances will be augmented with projection and animation by the illuminart team. The shows will highlight local stories and history, and involve residents in telling and presenting their local perspective of the town.

Bookings are essential… find out more here.

As always, you can enjoy a story or a dozen at the Story Wall, State Library of SA. It’s currently featuring a nifty new story about the Epic Flight of the Smith Brothers. More info about Story Wall here.

Other May Winter Warmer projects we will tell you about very soon!

  • An inside cell projection at the Old Adelaide Gaol Museum!
  • A permanent projection onto Silos!
  • Projection training for Tamworth Artists!
  • and more… May is just the beginning of Winter!
