About The Light Pirates
The Light Pirates project was a series of private and public events taking place in Port Augusta in 2008 during the program of Port Augusta Re-imagines.
The events were presented at night mostly in public spaces around the town, featuring audiovisual projections onto heritage buildings and public structures, in ways which open eyes to the surroundings, stories and surprises that can occur when illumination creates illusion.
The Light Pirates project was produced and directed by projection artist Cindi Drennan ~ Illuminart and involved local people of Port Augusta and the region in creative and technical roles, and to contribute stories to the evolving work.
Amongst the team of people involved in the digital media production and hybrid media presentations, were Lucke Rogers (Film making and Photography), Ben Webb (Animation, AV Operating, and IT), John Mannion (Oral History Collection), John Simpson (Audio Recording).
Talent appearing within scenes of the Light Pirates were senior dancers from the Musical Theatre Company, words by Matt Leonard, Samantaray and Lucy Paynter.
